I am a former aircraft engineer with 18 years experience specific to the now retired General Dynamics F-111. This is where I first used the wet blasting process, which was specifically developed by Rolls Royce as a maintenance process when they were developing their first jet engines in the late 1940's. It is a high volume, low pressure process that will not damage sensitive areas such as threads, valve seats, bushings, or precisely machined surfaces. It is a very efficient cleaning process, and yet it can be so delicate as to be able to remove the varnish from an electrical printed circuit board (to allow circuit repairs) without damaging the printed circuit itself.
The machine that I use is a "Vaqua" wet blast machine, developed and manufactured in England. It is the same brand of machine used by the RAAF, Australian Army, Navy, Hawker Pacific, BHP-Billiton, Pratt and Whitney, and many other companies where high levels of precision and performance are fundamental. These companies know that to produce the best results, you need the best tools on the market.
Perhaps the greatest advantage of this process over dry blasting is that dry blasting most often leaves particles of the blast media embedded in the parent metal of the part being processed. That is definitely not a great result for precision machined mating surfaces. Alloy parts that have been dry blasted look wonderful when they have been blasted, albeit with a rather dull, matt finish. However the real advantage of wet blasting over dry blasting is that the burnishing technique that I use leaves a beautiful fingerprint resistant sheen that doesn't tarnish and is easy to clean. Why settle for a painted finish that is "close" to the right colour when you can have the real deal and none of the downfalls such as the risk of chipping, discolouration etc.? To sum up, wet blasting is a non-destructive, environmentally friendly cleaning process that does not alter machining tolerances and will give a stunning finish to that special project.
Another great advantage of wet blasting is that if you have a very rare part that has suffered extensive corrosion, the wet blasting process removes only the corrosion. It does not remove the parent metal. The many benefits of this include the fact that any weld repairs that need to be carried out can be done without risk of contamination by corrosion.......because it's all gone! Also, if you decide to use one of the very good epoxy metal repairs available on the market today, you know that the adhesion rate is going to be about as good as it is possible to be, because ALL of the corrosion will be gone!
I can provide this service at a rate cheaper than most (if not all) dry blasting service providers and I do not impose a minimum charge. I do not impose charges to cover the time it takes to clean the machine or change the blast media, or any other "house-keeping" activity involved with this process. You only pay for the time it takes to process your component/s. I can clean your parts to a level of your choosing. Some customers are happy with a "quick" job.......that is, they just want their parts cleaned to a reasonable standard without needing them to be concours winners. Other customers are happy to pay a little more for the fully burnished finish, whether it be for the purpose of showing the vehicle, or just to know that their car has the best finish in town. The good news is that the choice is yours!
I have been a motoring enthusiast since I was a boy. Over the last 30yrs, I have amassed a sizeable collection of my own cars, trucks, and bikes. I even have a 1947 Albion bus!!! I love what I do and it gives me great pleasure to help fellow enthusiasts obtain the BEST finish for their parts.
